Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 2 Review: Dany and Jon’s Time May Be Up

game of thrones season 8 episode 2 review
Jon and Dany at the Stark Crypt.

After the first episode set the pace and filled us with nostalgia, emotional reunions and more heart-warming moments, the second episode of Game of Thrones season 8, which was leaked (sadly), drove us to the very edge of WTF!

And though devoid of action, it was evident that from here on out, there will be murder, chaos, mayhem, and a series of continuous Valar Morghulis moments.

***If you haven’t watched Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 2, then don’t scroll any further because there will be serious spoilers from here on out. You can instead check out the things I noticed (and called, because I am that awesome) in the first episode of season 8.***

SANSA Is A True Queen.

From the very first episode, Sansa already proved just how far she had come from being the young, naïve girl who nearly betrayed her family because she wanted to get married to Joffrey, to becoming the Lady of Winterfell and a woman who doesn’t give a shit about Dany’s claim to the throne… as long as she leaves the North out of her conquest.

It takes a true queen to defy Danaerys to her face and ask “what happens after the war is over? Will you leave the North out of your conquest?” A question that shocked Danaerys so much, she had to withdraw her outstretched hands.

Arya and Bran May Be the Wildcards In This War

All the Stark children have matured beyond anyone’s wildest dreams at this point, and regardless of what others may think, they are the most powerful family in the whole series.

They have an assassin, a WARG, a street smart lady, and the true King of the Seven Kingdoms in their ranks, and they can overthrow anything and anyone they so desire.

However, in this war, Bran and Arya are the ones who have the most part to play. Bran, being what the Night King wants, has made himself bait to lure the Ice King to a trap, and since Bran can enter the minds of living beings and control them, the Night King may not see an attack of his coming.

Arya, on the other hand, has faced death many times and won thanks to her training, and her ability to steal faces and become anyone might be really key in this war. So far, we can’t tell if the Night King will be able to tell if Arya is posing as a wight or a Night Walker, and if he can’t tell, then he will definitely not see an attack from her.

Brienne of Tarth’s Character Development

Suffice to say that Lady Brienne, I mean Sir Brienne of Tarth’s development in the series has been amazing. It was a really emotional moment to see her get the one thing she had always wanted but could never have because no man would give it to her; being a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. If you thought I meant something else, then you need to have a serious mind cleanse.

What Next For Danaerys and Jon?

After Jon or Aegon Targaryen, came clean to Dany about his true heritage, the first thing Dany replied with was “you have a claim to the throne.” She seemed really bothered by it and looked somewhat betrayed that the man she is in love with may try to take the throne from her. In many ways, Dany seems like she is becoming less and less like the breaker of chains and the woman who wanted to liberate everyone and more like her mad father.

Other worthy mentions in the episode are Arya and Gendry getting their freak on, and Tormmund telling his story and proceeding to drink a horn-full of giant breast milk. Those moments were really gold.
