Pacific Rim 2: The Jaegers Are Much More Upgraded – According To John Boyega

Details of the sequel to Pacific Rim has been somewhat quiet as regards to general news and what to expect in the movie. With the most interesting of the reported news coming from director Steven S. DeKnight, who said that Uprising will explore the backstory of the Kaiju.

But fans can expect more than just a backstory of the horrifying monsters now that John Boyega has opened up about how the sequel will be an upgrade on the original in every way. Boyega says that the new movie will see Jaegers significantly improved to move much faster, increasing the speed of the combat in a big way. According to the actor…

We’ve got better upgrades. The robots are moving much more swift. Yeah, we’re like ballerinas up in there, it’s fantastic.

In the original movie, the fight scenes between the Jaegers and the Kaiju were too mechanic and somewhat slow, which somehow overshadowed how great the fight scenes actually were. But with what Boyega tells IGN, this is sure to change in Pacific Rim: Uprising. The reference to Ballerinas makes all the difference, because it will be something along the lines of Ultron’s movement in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and the Robots in Hugh Jackman’s Real Steel – whose movements were perfectly in sync, that most people forgot they were just robots.

Now with the size of the Jaegers and Kaiju being as tall – some taller – than skyscrapers, more graceful and seamless movement will make the fight scenes more Human v Monsters than Robots v Monsters, which is mouth watering if you think about it.

Pacific Rim: Uprising will see John Boyega as the son of Idris Elba’s character from the first film. It’s currently set for a March 23, 2018 release.
