Netflix Buys Genevieve Nnaji’s Lionheart Movie

Genevieve Nnaji has made history by becoming the first Nollywood director to have her movie become a Netflix Original movie after the movie company purchased Lionheart.

The movie, which coincidentally is Genevieve’s debut role as a director and also Peter Okoye’s (Mr. P) debut role as an actor, was purchased after it was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in Canada.

Lionheart is officially the first Nollywood movie that is a Netflix original movie, and it is a huge win for the industry as a whole.

With movies like Kunle Afolayan’s October 1 and many more Nigerian movies already on the streaming platform, having a Nigerian movie being purchased by Netflix will help point other investors to the Nigerian movie industry like the likes of Narcos, Marvel’s TV series, Beast of no Nation, and other exclusive content from all over the world which are Netflix Originals have done.

Congratulations to Genevieve and the cast and crew of Lionheart!
