Play Network, the studio behind Living in Bondage: Breaking Free, and the reboot of both Glamour Girls and Nneka the Pretty Serpent, has announced another sequel to a classic Nollywood movie; Osuofia Goes to Miami.
The movie has been scheduled for a 2021 release.
I love the fact that we’re getting reboots of all these classic/nostalgic movies. What I don’t like, however, is when that’s all it seems we’ll be getting. It’s like the industry (both Hollywood and Nollywood) is now all about reboots and sequels.
Does it show a lack of new content or is it just a way to feed our inner nostalgia/wishes? I guess we’ll wait to find out.
However, Play Network did a really good job with the Living in Bondage sequel and this route they’re taking is a good way to tell classic stories better, with richer scripts, better VFX/acting, and modern production that both the young and old can understand and enjoy.
