Opinion: Can A Blue Film Industry/Company Thrive in Nigeria?

In a recent revelation by Pornhub, it was revealed that Nigeria is the second-highest African country that watches blue film on the internet, only bested by South Africa.

While that isn’t really surprising considering the number of people we have in a country like Nigeria (if like 20 million out of 180 million people watch porn, then the numbers are valid and expected), the statistic only leaves the question of “can a blue film or porn industry thrive in Nigeria?” and “is it time to put aside culture for the betterment of the economy?”

There are a couple of Nigerians like King TblackHoc and others who are allegedly making some serious cash on blue film streaming services, with King allegedly having been ranked first on one of the more popular sites at some point in time. So isn’t it time we all accept the fact that Nigerians watch and are willing consumers of such content? And coupled with the fact that there are a lot of stereotypes, discussions, debates, and more about sex workers in Nigeria, maybe an industry such as this may help solve some of the problems and issues they face.

Next is the fact that there are actually Nigerian categories now on many blue film sites. This category was created due to the high volume of clips done by Nigerians for Nigerians and the rest of the world. If we really want to buy Nigerian to grow Nigeria, then why are we putting our content on western sites and applications, when the potential to generate revenue for Nigeria if we have Nigerian adult film streaming services is high?

However, let’s not forget that there are drawbacks also. Like the stigma that they will most likely face, the diseases and maintenance problems that may arise due to Nigerians annoying attitude to not follow rules and regulations, lacklustre healthcare, and the fact that even though a lot of people actually have sex, adult films, on the other hand, is just not part of our culture.

So what do you guys think? Do you think a blue film company or industry can thrive in Nigeria? let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.
