King of Boys and Black Panther are Among Google’s 2018 Most Searched Movies

2018 has been one awesome year for movies around the world, and Google confirmed this with the list of the most searched movies of the year as part of its annual “Year in Search” series.

The Google search trend revealed the movies that trended in Nigeria in 2018. The list had movie-related searches and majorly involved the movies that Nigerians wanted to either see or check out through Google’s search engine.

1. Black Panther

February’s Black Panther kickstarted what is one of the best superhero movie years ever. The Marvel Cinematic Universe movie which was directed by Ryan Coogler, takes the first position in the 2018 Google trend searches in Nigeria list. According to Google, 95% of Google users in Nigeria liked ‘Black Panther’, which grossed $1.344 billion as of May 22, 2018. The movie, according to Film House Distribution, is the highest watched movie in Nigeria staying on number one spot at the Nigerian box office for over six weeks.

2. Avengers: Infinity War

Barely months after reeling from the awesomeness of Black Panther, Marvel Studios gave us yet another blockbuster (with the saddest ending ever) in Avengers: Infinity War.  The movie ranks second on the 2018 Google trend searches in Nigeria list. With 92% of Google users in Nigeria applauding the movie. It grossed a total of $2.048 billion at the box office.

3. Acrimony

Tyler Perry’s ‘Acrimony’ was one of the most debated topics of the year by Nigerians with the intense drama and proceedings of the movie. The movie, which starred Taraji P. Henson, had 91% acceptance rating by Nigerians according to Google. The movie grossed $46.4 million at the box office.

4. Venom

Sony’s new antihero cinematic universe debut movie, Venom, ranks fourth on the list of 2018 Google trend searches in Nigeria. Grossing $851.3 million at the box office, the movie had 95% of Google users in Nigeria liking the movie and this was evident in the sales at the cinemas in Nigeria.

5. Deadpool 2

If Deadpool hadn’t made the list, then there’s no denying that something would have been very wrong. I bet he’d have shattered the fourth wall and come knock every Nigerian on their heads. 94% of Google users in Nigeria liked ‘Deadpool 2‘ which grossed a total of $734.2 million at the box office.

6. King of Boys

The number one movie in Nigeria at the moment, ‘King Of Boys‘ made its way to the 2018 Google trend searches in Nigeria list. Starring Sola Sobowale, Reminisce, Toni Tones, Adesua Etomi, Illbliss, Demola Adedoyin and many others, 97% of Google users in Nigeria like the movie. The movie, according to Film House Distribution, has grossed ₦200 million in its seventh week in the cinema.

7. The Wedding Party: Destination Dubai

The seventh most searched movie on Google in 2018 is the sequel to EbonyLife films’ hit movie, ‘The Wedding Party.’ Directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, ‘Wedding Party 2‘, which grossed ₦500 million according to Film House Distribution, is the second most searched film from a Nigerian movie company.

8. Rampage

Rampage which featured Dwayne Johnson, Malin Åkerman, and Naomie Harris, made the eighth position on the 2018 Google trend searches in Nigeria list. The movie which was directed by Brad Peyton had 93% of Google users in Nigeria liking it. With a budget of $140 million, the film grossed $426.3 million at the box office.
