Thor: Ragnarok is making its first big media/PR blitz with an EW cover revealing the new look of Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, along with first looks looks at new ally Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and new villain, Hela (Cate Blanchett).
The photos seem to mostly depict the gladiatorial world that Thor and Valkyrie (and presumably The Hulk) will do battle in. That world is probably much more extravagant and colorful than a lot of fans were probably thinking; the production design and overall aesthetic look like a classic Jack Kirby drawing come to life.
We also get to see Jeff Goldblum as The Grandmaster – brother to Benicio Del Toro’s Collector from Guardians of the Galaxy, and another look at Cate Blanchett’s Hela. It also seems that Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie might have a bigger supporting role than some fans may have guessed. Will Thor finally find love with a warrior who is his equal (sorry Sif…)?
