Mulan’s Live-Action Movie Will Have No Songs

Disney is currently enjoying immense success with its live-action adaptations, including the brand new one the studio just released this weekend in Beauty and the Beast. Their upcoming slate also features another beloved animated film, Mulan, but there will be a few differences in the approach.

While Beauty and the Beast differs from the original animated version, the musical portion is firmly left intact. In fact, Disney even added three new songs to the live-action version. That does not seem to be the plan for Mulan, which also houses a few addictive and well remembered musical numbers. Moviefone recently sat down with Mulan director Niki Caro, and asked about whether there would be any songs in the live-action version, saying “Yes, from what I understand, no songs right now, much to the horror of my children.”
While Mulan doesn’t have many songs that rival films like Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, it does feature the incredibly popular “I’ll Make a Man Out of You”. It will disappoint many that a version of that isn’t currently planned for the film, but as Disney has pointed out in the past, these things are on a case by case basis, so just because it doesn’t feature it now doesn’t mean it won’t later on.
Disney is currently riding high on the opening of Beauty and the Beast, and you can find the official synopsis for it below
Beauty and the Beast is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.
Beauty and the Beast is in theaters now.
