The Flash Features Heavily in Justice League’s Extended Trailer At CinemaCon

Warner Bros kicked off their DC Comics Extended Universe in earnest last year with the debut of Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which featured the returning Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) from Man of Steel teaming up with Bruce Wayne/Batman (Ben Affleck) and Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) in a battle against Doomsday. The movie additionally featured minor introductions for the likes of Barry Allen/The Flash (Ezra Miller), Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Victor Stone/Cyborg (Ray Fisher). All six superheroes are set to return later this year in Snyder’s third DCEU installment, Justice League, following Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman this summer.

Warner Bros has been hyping Justice League since Comic-Con International in San Diego last summer where the studio screened the first teaser for the upcoming team-up. More recently, Warner Bros released the full trailer for Justice League, after a few days of character-focused teasers and posters were revealed – though Superman was nowhere to be found. Now, Warner Bros brought all three of their next upcoming DCEU features to CinemaCon.
During the Warner Bros CinemaCon presentation, the studio debuted new concept art for Aquaman, footage for Wonder Woman, and an extended Justice League trailer. According to reports out of CinemaCon, the Justice League extended trailer includes two specific scenes, both featuring The Flash.
  • In one, Wonder Woman can be seen falling and trying to grab hold of her sword, while The Flash helps her catch it – which ComicBook.com’s Brandon Davis said is reminiscent of X-Men: Days of Future Past‘s Quicksilver sequence.
  • The second is an ending stinger of Barry Allen standing on a rooftop with Bruce and Diana (all in plain clothes) noticing the Bat-signal and saying excitedly, “Oh awesome. It’s the Batsignal! That’s your signal” He apologizes for talking too loudly, then says, “That means we have to go now. That’s so cool.” Meanwhile, Bruce and Diana remain calm.
  • An additional scene reported by THR features Bruce working in a Wayne warehouse on a troop carrier when he’s approached by Diana. He mentions that he spent $1 million dollars on the security system she just broke into, and Diana remarks that he got his money’s worth. They briefly discuss the vehicle and the approaching threat.
These scenes offer fun character moments that fans can expect to see in the movie. They reaffirm that Miller’s version of Barry Allen will be the easily excited, young member of the team – one that seems to be a fan of Batman prior to meeting Bruce Wayne, as indicated by the scene in which Bruce recruits Barry and this trailer stinger. Additionally, Barry seems to be the most eager to join a team of superheroes – and makes friends – while Arthur Curry and Bruce have their reservations about working with others.
Of course, these new scenes don’t offer much more insight into Justice League than the trailer Warner Bros released over the weekend. Based on the reports coming out of CinemaCon, these added sequences don’t reveal anything new about the parademons or Mother Boxes we know will be included in Justice League. Additionally, they don’t feature Superman, who has been notably absent from all the official marketing for the film thus far – though an empty slot on the Justice League website does leave room for the Man of Steel.
That said, while Superman may not be featured in the Justice League trailer, Cavill did appear at CinemaCon to help Snyder and his fellow cast members present the extended trailer. So, it’s only a matter of time before fans get their first glimpse of Superman in Justice League.
