Mortal Kombat Movie Review

Mortal Kombat follows the lives of earth’s heroes, who have been embedded with a dragon tattoo that shows they are the champions to fight in the 10th Mortal Kombat competition against outworld, but Shang Tsung, the sorcerer, wants to destroy them all before the competition even begins.

The story was very skewed from the source material, and while that shouldn’t have normally been a problem, it took away the “specialness of the characters from Earthrealm. The movie gave the inclination that anyone could be a champion and not people who were specially chosen by Raiden because he saw something in them.

There’s also the story of Scorpion’s revenge and the portrayal of fan-favourite characters like Lui Kang not really being as strong and skilled as one remembers considering how he struggled to defeat characters that are really low in the rankings of an arcade mode.

All these above-mentioned issues won’t matter while you watch Mortal Kombat because the action and the fight scenes do make up for it.

In a nutshell, the movie ticks all the boxes of what you’ll expect watching the movie – great action, beautiful fight scenes, all the gore, blood, fatalities, and stunts that will keep you on the edge of your seat and make you remember why you loved playing the games so much.

Is Mortal Kombat worth watching? If you have enjoyed playing the games, and have watched the recent Mortal Kombat: Scorpion’s Revenge animated movie, then yes, this movie is for you.
