Henry Cavill, who currently plays Superman in the DC Extended Universe has been added to the cast of the ever-returning Mission Impossible Franchise. The Man from U.N.C.L.E star will play Tom Cruise’s boss’ right-hand man in the sixth installment of the hugely successful franchise.
Cavill’s role was played by Alec Baldwin in the last movie, but his busy schedule, Alec has seen his role given to Henry Cavill. Jeremy Renner who also plays an important character in the superhero universe (Hawkeye in Marvel Cinematic Universe) may also find it difficult to reprise his role from M.I 5, thanks to the Avengers busy schedule…. It is difficult, but not Impossible.
With Cavill, his recent movies have seen him play a character who usually has a grim/straight/mopey face on him (which is one of the reason’s why people dislike his portrayal of Superman), but that is likely to change in M.I:6 because the M:I movies generally do a good job balancing between taking it seriously enough to sell the wacky premise and winking at the wacky premise, so this should be a good fit. We’ll see how much Tom Cruise actually lets him do. Simon Pegg can flourish because he’s a good comedic foil to Cruise, but Renner, an Action Man competitor, has already been cut off at the knees.
Also returning is Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust, aka, the one who should be headlining these movies now. But, like Renner, it’s unknown how much Ilsa will have to do this time. Hopefully a lot—she made the last M:I movie—and hopefully not as Ethan Hunt’s girlfriend. If they reduce Ilsa Faust to The Girlfriend, I will scream. But I don’t put anything past Tom Cruise. No one is allowed to be bigger than Tom Cruise.
