Last weekend, 33-year-old Reddit user Alexander Q posted on the Marvel Studios subreddit inquiring about the possibility of being able to view Avengers: Endgame ahead of its scheduled premiere. Today, Alexander posted an update confirming that Disney has reached out to him to discuss options for an early viewing.
Alexander suffers from a rare, terminal genetic disease called Fanconi Anemia, which results in the decreased production of blood cells and affects bone marrow. Currently suffering from liver and mouth cancer, as well as bone marrow failure, Alexander lost his sister to the disease three years prior and doesn’t believe he’ll still be alive when Endgame premieres in April.
This news actually brought tears to my eyes. It is really good seeing this kind of thing happen as it not only puts a smile on someone’s face, it also shows that the studio recognises that connecting with your core fans is more important than making money.
I’m really rooting for Alexander to not only get to watch the movie early, but also live longer than expected. Don’t forget to join the discussion on reddit.
