Loki, Scarlett Witch and Other MCU Characters To Star in Disney Streaming TV Shows

Marvel Studios is heading to Disney’s streaming service, and major MCU stars are coming with them. Kevin Feige has built Marvel Studios to become one of the biggest companies in Hollywood, as they’re responsible for arguably the biggest franchise in the world. This success has spurned copycats, but also interest within Marvel to piggyback off the hits. Marvel TV continues to make content on ABC, Netflix, Freeform, and Hulu that are loosely connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by the movies.

Well, now Marvel Studios is going to the small screen with planned limited series’ for Scarlet Witch and Loki. These live-action shows will be part of the MCU canon, and be made with massive budgets that rival most movies. This won’t just be to pay for quality VFX and sets, but also for the major talent that will star in them.

As part of Variety’s report that broke the news of Disney and Marvel’s intentions, they confirmed that MCU actors will be reprising their roles for these spinoffs. With Scarlet Witch and Loki being two of the known projects in development, that means Elizabeth Olsen and Tom Hiddleston will each return in this new capacity.

Doing MCU limited series is one thing, but actually managing to get the necessary talent back is another. Both Olsen and Hiddleston are big stars in Hollywood, but Marvel appears ready to pay up to secure their services. It also shows an interest by these actors to continue playing these characters, regardless of what medium it comes in. Hiddleston was thought to have said goodbye to Loki during Avengers: Infinity War’s opening few minutes, while Olsen was one of the many MCU actors to be dusted in the closing moments. Both will now return to their roles in the future.

Despite their stardom, Olsen and Hiddleston have both ventured to TV recently. Hiddleston received critical praise for his role in AMC’s The Night Manager, where he starred opposite fellow MCU cast member Elizabeth Debicki. Meanwhile, Olsen’s next project is actually a TV series as well. She stars in Facebook’s series Sorry for Your Loss with Kelly Marie Tran, so this looks to be a return to an online platform for her. With Olsen and Hiddleston both coming back for Disney’s streaming service, the same will be expected for any other limited series Marvel is planning. So, no matter what series eventually hits the platform, the established actors will be the ones to star.
