The heroes of CW’s Legends of Tomorrow are set to once again defy and travel across time in the upcoming third season, and are going to meet a popular Roman icon in the form of Julius Caeser.
It was recently revealed that Simon Merrells (Spartacus, Dominion) has been cast as Julius Caesar in an upcoming episode of the show’s third season. Caesar, of course, had a hand in the rise of the Roman Empire, before he was assassinated by members of his own senate.
“We start out in 2017, obviously, but we’re going to take a trip back to Ancient Rome.” executive producer Phil Klemmer revealed to CBR. “We’re going to have Simon Merrells — he played Julius Caesar’s [patron Crassus] on Spartacus — who’s going to be playing Julius Caesar on our show.”
This casting will see Merrells join the ever growing list of Spartacus alum in the Arrowverse, with Arrow‘s Manu Bennett, Katrina Law, and Nick Tarabay, and The Flash‘s Todd Lasance and Liam McIntyre already solid members. He has also appeared on The CW’s The Tomorrow People, alongside The Flash‘s Robbie Amell and Peyton List.
The series returns to Tuesday nights at 9 p.m., following new episodes of The Flash, in October.
N.B – Supergirl premieres on Monday, October 9th at 8 pm, while The Flash debuts on Tuesday, October 10 at 8 pm. Legends of Tomorrow moves to Tuesdays this Fall, airing right after The Flash on October 10. On Thursday, October 12 at 9 pm Arrow will premiere to round out the DC roster.
