Deadpool 2 Movie Review: One of The Best Superhero Movie Sequels Yet

From a studio that has not really gotten it right when it comes to giving out great superhero movies (after the failures of movies like Fantastic Four, Wolverine Origins, X-Men: Apocalypse, etc.) Fox hit it big with the sequel to the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, Deadpool.
Deadpool 2 was pure fun from the very beginning of the movie till the final scene. It will no doubt join the likes of The Dark Knight, Captain America, and Avengers as one of the few superhero movies that gave us a worthy sequel; one, which arguably trumps the first movie in its franchise by a mile.
If you thought you laughed hard in Deadpool, then you should erase that memory before watching Deadpool 2 because you will probably keep on laughing all the way home. Ryan Reynold gave us another premium dose of what it means to be the “Merc with a Mouth” as he fought, killed, and was the perfect mercenary while making rib-cracking jokes and giving the kind of quips that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s movies will no doubt applaud.
The many references to his past movies; Green Lantern and Wolverine: X-men Origins, as well as a tribute to Logan and tons of hilarious references to other superhero movies like Black Panther, the DCEU, Thanos (who was played by Josh Brolin, the same person who played Cable in Deadpool 2), and others that were effortlessly added into the movie is one that no doubt makes the writers (Ryan Reynolds, Paul Wernick, and Rhett Reese) deserving of way more than an ovation and numerous awards.
Also, from a movie which you’d expect nothing more than action and comedy, your ’emotionometer’ will no doubt go south as Deadpool 2 see you grabbing a box of tissues just like you did at the end of both Logan and Avengers: Infinity War (no, I didn’t cry, you did.wil) during the few emotional scenes in the movie.
The plot twist of Cable going from not being the actual villain (per se) was really awesome and getting to see the real Juggernaut (because the Juggernaut in X-Men 3: The Last Stand, was really abysmal) in action was really satisfying. Although the CGI of Juggernaut wasn’t all that great, it was cleverly masked by Deadpool telling us that there was going to be a big CGI fight coming up between Colossus and Juggernaut in one of his 4th-wall shattering moments, which would immediately make you forget about it and enjoy a really hilarious yet action-packed fight.
Deadpool 2 is worth every penny and I wouldn’t be surprised if it gives Avengers: Infinity War a tough time at the box-office because it is definitely one of the best superhero movie sequels yet.
Score: 9.5/10
