Deadpool 2’s Release Date Changed… Coming To Cinemas Earlier Than Expected

2018 is shaping up to be a great year for superhero movies with Fox scheduled to release X-Men: Dark Phoenix continuing the main X-Men series, Deadpool 2 and The New Mutants. However, new release date information has just dropped. The good news is that you’ll be able to see Deadpool 2 a couple weeks earlier.
Deadpool 2 will now be released on May 18 as opposed to June 1.
However, we’ve also learned that New Mutants has been moved from April 13 of this year to February 22, 2019. According to insiders who spoke with THR, one reason The New Mutants has been delayed for so many months is that Fox didn’t want to have any X-Men movie overlap because, in certain territories, Deadpool 2 and The New Mutants would have been in theatres at the same time. So rather than three X-Men movies being released in 2018, now there are just two: Deadpool 2 being an early summer release and X-Men: Dark Phoenix still coming out on November 2. As for Gambit, it’s been moved from February 14, 2019, to June 7, 2019, though Fox still “believe” in the project, which is described as having a “heavy comedic tone as it revolves around a heist.”
On the other hand, it is really strange for Fox to move Deadpool 2 up to the same month Avengers: Infinity War is to be released. While that may be awesome for superhero lovers who will get to watch what will hopefully be two awesome superhero movies in the month of May, like in November 2017 which saw Thor: Ragnarok and Justice League, it may just bounce back in sales for Fox’s most successful R-rated movie.
I guess we’ll know for sure when both movies hit cinemas nationwide in May.
